EMMC?
The EMMC School
of Medical Technology was founded in 1946 and
is accredited by the National
Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS),
PO Box 75634, Chicago, IL, 60675-5634. The School provides a stimulating
environment to furnish high quality technical training and expose
students to the philosophy and ethics of the Medical Technology profession.
The School of Medical
Technology is affiliated with the University
of Maine. Students obtain thirty-two college credits, upon satisfactory
completion of their clinical training. Upon graduation from the program,
you are eligible to take national certification examinations and
are well on your way to a rewarding career in medical technology.
From
the drawing of blood specimens to the accurate and timely reporting
of laboratory data, the skilled hand of the medical technologist
is a vital factor in patient care. As an explorer of the world of
microscopic cells, you will find your way to an exciting career.

Your education through EMMC's School of Medical Technology will take you places
-- whether working with the healthcare team, researching the many sciences,
or working with the nation's industries -- your knowledge and hands-on experience
will be invaluable to your success. EMMC's Clinical Laboratory, Affiliated
Laboratory Incorporated (ALI) is accredited by the College of American Pathologists
and serves EMMC as well as dozens of hospitals, nursing homes, and physician
offices throughout the state. ALI provides the variety and volume of specimens
necessary to provide comprehensive training in the field of Medical Technology.
Administration
and Faculty
The School of Medical Technology is under the administration of the Medical
Director and Program Director in conjunction with the Manager of the Laboratory.
The faculty consists of the administrators of the school and other medical
technologists and pathologists.
Registry
Pass Rate
For the past five years the average first time registry exam pass rate for
the graduates has been 100% compared the national average of 80% for those
same five years.
Student / Faculty ratio:
While in the lecture portion of the internship year, the highest student to
faculty ratio will be 1:6. During the clinical rotations, the maximum ratio
will be 1:2.
Job
Placement Statistics
In the past five years the school has graduated 22 students with 100% employment
within one month of graduation. Seventeen students (3/4) remained in the state
of Maine with eight students being hired by Affiliated Laboratory, Inc. (EMMC's
clinical laboratory) upon graduation.

Opportunities
According to Jobs Rated Almanac, by Les Krantz, Clinical Laboratory Science
ranks 16th among 250 jobs and 3rd among 32 health-related occupations. These
rankings are based on the work environment, income, employment outlook, physical
demands of the job, stress, and job security.
Graduates in CLS-MT programs work in a wide variety of areas:

the field of medical technology

and purity of various medications

Employment Opportunities
Opportunities may
be available for training and employment in the phlebotomy and/or
specimen processing sections of the laboratory during the summer
